Broadening horizons is an important theme for new partner Paul Roberts, both professionally and personally. A native of St. Catharines, Paul obtained his Chartered Accountant designation in 1996 after graduating from Brock University with an Honours Bachelor of Accounting degree. He then completed the C.I.C.A. In-Depth Tax Course in 2000.

In 2004 Paul joined Lipton Wiseman Altbaum & Partners, LLP. “It was the best move I could have made,” says Paul. “Lipton Wiseman has offered me the environment I was looking for – teamwork, quality clients, opportunities, and a great group of people to work with, both staff and clients.”

Paul works with clients in a wide range of industries – including retail, manufacturing, real estate, construction, insurance, financial services, and emerging knowledge-based industries.

Paul’s keen interests in information technology and business lead to a career in public accounting. He employs emerging technologies as a tool to improve clients’ businesses. “I’m always thinking ahead to see how I can use IT to help make clients successful. Accounting is really a people business, and combining my interest in technology with the opportunity to help clients is very fulfilling.” In addition to assurance and taxation work, Paul is involved with the firm’s international accounting affiliation JHI as a member of the Information Technology sub-committee.

Finding the right balance is also important to Paul, whether it’s building his career, being involved in the community, or starting a family. Paul’s daughter Hannah begins school in September – a virtual lifetime away since that day when he and his wife Michelle stepped off the plane with their new daughter from China. “We’d like to return to China one day with Hannah so she can see her heritage,” Paul says. “Who knows, maybe we’ll even come home with a baby sister!
